Home lighting amounts to about 8 to 15 percent of your home's total energy bill. By using and maintaining efficient lighting and turning off lights when not needed, it is possible to save energy and money.
The simplest, efficient light source is a screw-in replacement for the ordinary incandescent bulb - the Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL). CFL's last much longer and need less electricity to generate the same amount of light. For example, a 20-watt CFL provides about the same illumination as a 75-watt incandescent bulb, lasts up to 10 times longer and consumes 1/4 of the energy.
CFL's can be purchased at most hardware / home supply stores.
