In the wake of the massive tornadoes that devastated several communities in Oklahoma, Arkansas Valley Electric’s, Roundup For Change program contributed $500.00 to the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Oklahoma Relief Fund.  Money from the Fund will provide relief to co-op members affected by the recent tornadoes.

Our friends in Oklahoma are working around the clock to help those in need, and we at Arkansas Valley are so proud of their efforts during this terribly difficult time.  The donation will help people who are struggling from the devastation left by the storms to get back on their feet.

Roundup For Change was launched in May this year.  The program allows members to voluntary round up their bill to the next dollar amount, For example, if your bill were $41.70, it would be "rounded up" to $42. Your maximum contribution per year could be $11.88, but generally will be less than that, averaging $6 per year. Funds raised from the program will be allocated to community service, low-income assistance, education, youth programs and emergency energy assistance or disaster relief.  Thanks to all who are participating in Roundup For Change.  If you would like to be part of the program just go our website, avecc.com and click on the Roundup For Change banner or call us and we will take care of getting you enrolled.

Improved Service Through Technology Upgrades

Arkansas Valley Electric recently implemented Information System and computer operating technology upgrades in order to provide better efficiencies and improvements in a wide range of business functions which ultimately will increases service levels to all members. 

The systems will automate several paper-based processes and provide greater accuracy in a number of areas.  You may experience some delays when working with our office personnel during the transition process but ultimately the improvements will provide a number of benefits for you, including; advanced online payment solutions and web-based account management tools.  Be sure to check our website and Facebook page for information on updated and new features as they become available.

Alyceea Snodgrass from Altus and Colton Horn of Subiaco are the recent winners of an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The two students were selected as winners of an essay contest sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation.

Alyceea is a junior at Ozark High School and is the granddaughter of Michael and Rebecca wright. She is active in the Beta club, Spanish club, History club, Interact club, Speech/Drama club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Alyceea is also a Basketball Manager, student Council Treasurer, and a member of the 2013 Basketball Homecoming Royalty. Her hobbies include reading and shopping. Her career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist.

Colton is a junior at Scranton High School and is the son of Todd and Melanie Horn. He is an honor roll student who is active in Beta club, Envirothon, Future Business Leaders of America and participates in Baseball and Track. Colton is Science club President and has won awards in Quiz Bowl and Future Farmers of America. His hobbies include Hunting, Fishing, Kayaking, and Chess. Colton hopes to pursue a career in Civil Engineering.

Each year, an essay contest is held for high school juniors whose parents or guardians are members of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation. For this year’s essay, the students wrote an essay entitled “Why I Would Be a Good Youth Tour Representative.” A panel of three judges selected the two winners from the essays submitted.

According to Greg Davis, Key Accounts/Member Services Manager of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative, “the students, along with 42 other Arkansas youth, will travel to Washington D.C. Upon arrival, they will join thousands of other youth from across the United States to tour the city’s landmarks.” Davis said “the purpose of the Youth Tour program is to educate the students about our country and the rural electrification program in order to provide a better understanding of our form of government and the value of rural electric cooperatives.”
