“A Great Opportunity”

By Phoenix Mertin, AVECC Multimedia Intern

Akira Fujibayashi has been interning with the AVECC engineering Department at Ozark this summer.

Growing up in Greenwood, Akira has built a successful football career playing for the Bulldogs – a career he looks forward to continuing this fall at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, where he plans to study mechanical engineering.

As a recent high school graduate, “I saw AVECC as a great opportunity to learn more about engineering,” he said.

Akira comes from a family of motor sports enthusiasts; “My grandfather sold Porches in Chicago, my family races, we go to the Tri-state speedway,” he said, “so that’s what I want to do.”

Even though he’s interested in automotive mechanical engineering, Akira sees a lot of crossover with what he is learning about electrical systems and what he wants to study, as well as principles that can be applied to cars’ electronic systems.

Overall, “From working with the engineers and hanging out with [the other interns], at AVECC, it’s been a great experience,” Akira said.

“I’m happy to be here.”
