A Generation of Future Leaders

A Generation of Future Leaders

by: Emily Staton

At Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative (AVECC), we are optimistic about the future of the River Valley. This year, AVECC has had the privilege of supporting six enthusiastic and passionate young leaders from across the service territory.

2023 AVECC Youth Tour Delegates:

Three were Youth Tour delegates who represented the River Valley in Washington, D.C. While visiting the nation’s capital, the students had the opportunity to learn more about the workings of our nation’s government, and electric cooperatives and to develop leadership skills. At its core, Youth Tour is a grassroots campaign to bring awareness to the endless opportunities available to the next generation of rural leaders.

2023 AVECC Senior Scholarship Recipients:

AVECC also awarded three outstanding high school seniors a $2,500 scholarship as part of the 2023 Senior Scholarship. AVECC's hope is that these students, by furthering their education, will positively change their community.

Anna Hart, a graduate of Paris High School, plans to study biology at the University of Arkansas in the fall. Anna plans to use this degree to pursue a career in health care. She shared, "Changing the world and my community has always been appealing to me, as it is to most. I strive to do this by pursuing a career in medicine.”

Graceanne Morgan, a graduate of Clarksville High School, plans to study Musical Theatre at Ouachita Baptist University in the Fall. She dreams of the day that all children are able to share this passion. “You must work for what you want, and that is exactly what I am doing. I plan to set an example for our community's students, so they can become the next, best generation. I would like to be a guiding light for younger women who want to pursue their education," shared Graceanne.

Kylie Murray, a graduate of Cedarville High School, plans to study nursing at the University of Arkansas in the fall.  She lives to serve others and is eager to make a positive impact on everyone she meets. Kylie elaborated, “I love when I can change one person's life by simply smiling or saying hello. But most importantly, I love feeling the growth of people and seeing the impact I have in their lives.”

This generation of young leaders has demonstrated exceptional talents and abilities. They have a plethora of opportunities to explore, and we believe that their creativity, adaptability, and resilience will lead them to great success. It's clear that the hard work and dedication of both the students and educators in our local schools have paid off, and the future looks bright for all of us.
