Lane Higgins, a rising senior studying electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, is interning for AVECC in Ozark this summer.
“I’m from the River Valley, and live in Alma,” Lane said, “so I know the Cooperative, and I love getting to see the work they do.”
As an intern for the AVECC engineering department, Lane helps program and test breaker panels that go on utility poles to ensure the equipment works properly and is safe before it goes into the field. While linemen install the equipment, “we get to see the digital background that goes into it,” he explained.
Lane, like everyone in the engineering department, cares deeply about the success of the technology that passes through engineering. He emphasises the importance of the careful testing the engineers do: Whether it’s for the linemen or the members, “we don’t want anything to fail.”
“AVECC is all about electricity and keeping the lights on,” he said. “I love what the cooperative is [all] about.”
