Don’t Drive Over Downed Lines

Can I drive over downed power lines? 

No. Never. Downed power lines can still be energized — even if they’re not sparking or moving. Driving over one can cause serious injury or death.

  • Stay in your vehicle
  • Call 911
  •  Warn others to stay away

Can you drive over a downed power line? 

It may look harmless, but the answer is NO. Downed power lines can energize your vehicle, the ground and nearby objects, putting you at serious risk. If you encounter a downed power line:

  • Stop and stay in your vehicle
  • Call 911
  • Warn others to keep their distance
